Abdominoplasty

Karın Germe

Abdominoplasty generally means tummy tuck. It is the process of cutting and removing the tissue with surgical methods in order to eliminate the bad appearance caused by reasons such as rapid weight loss in the middle and lower abdomen, postpartum tissue sagging, and fat accumulation in the abdomen. This surgery, which causes tightening of the abdominal muscles, is one of the ideal methods to get rid of saggy skin and achieve a beautiful appearance.

Who Are Suitable Candidates for Abdominoplasty?

  • People with abdominal fat accumulation due to diet and exercise
  • People with cracks and sagging in the abdomen
  • Weakness in the abdominal muscles

As a result of excessive sweating, these saggings irritate the skin, cause fungal infections, and also disturb individuals aesthetically. Adult women and men are good candidates for abdominoplasty. People who are overweight and diet to lose weight may delay this surgery for a while, as sagging will occur in the abdomen after weight loss.

How Is Abdominoplasty Operated?

The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. Before the operation, it is discussed whether the patient has a chronic disease, and if so, what is going on. At the pre-operative planning stage, the sagging or excess fat tissue is determined. Predetermined tissues are surgically cut and removed, the skin is stretched and sutured again. If any excess is seen after the sewing process, the excess area is cut off. The stitches are closed by dressing, and thin tubes are placed under the skin as fluid will collect around the operation area and the tubes are removed within 2-3 days in proportion to the amount of fluid. The duration of abdominoplasty surgery can vary between 1-2 hours and 4-5 hours depending on the tissue to be removed.

After Abdominoplasty Surgery

You may need to stay in the hospital for 1 to 3 days after abdominoplasty. It is very normal to have swelling and pain in the area. However, these pains can be relieved with the help of painkillers. The drains are removed 3 days after the surgery and the sutures are removed within 3 weeks. After a few months, daily life can be continued without any restriction in physical activities.

It takes 1 year for the scars to disappear completely. After abdominoplasty, we should change our diet habits and do regular sports in order to prevent tissue sagging and weight gain.
